A guide to progressive muscle relaxation.

Do you want to know how to stop a panic attack immediately?

Have you ever noticed anyone having a panic attack that looks physically relaxed? Often times when someone is having a panic attack it comes with some sort of muscle tension. There is a connection between emotions and body, when either of these two is affected then so is the other. For example, if you were to take muscle tension and relax it you can also bring down your panic, bring down your anxiety.

By learning to loosen up your muscles you can effectively stop yourself from panicking.

This can go more in the realm of feeling anxiety, but even then, relaxing your muscle tension will often decreases the intensity of what you are feeling. One way to release muscle tension is called progressive muscle relaxation. This is more of an elongated exercise, something that is more preventative but, the concept can be helpful.

When the muscles are tensed up just kind of say okay loosen up sometimes, they don’t but if you purposefully tense a muscle and then try to relax it the muscles seem to respond better to that. So, progressive muscle relaxation is just going through your whole body flexing the muscles and then releasing them. This is particularly helpful when trying to fall asleep, getting rid of tension in your shoulders, or your legs.

With a panic attack trying to release that tension paying attention to your breath can also help. Learning to become physically relaxed will help you avoid panic; it will help you feel less stressed. If right now you check in with yourself and you have muscle tension, and the tightness is about a five out of ten. With ten being the tensest and zero not at all, you might be able just to reduce your anxiety and your stress by reducing your muscle tension.
