How do you wake up better?
Do you have trouble waking up in the morning? Here is something that can help. It can pose a love hate relationship; you will love it because it works, but you may hate it because it works.
The NASA commissioned a research company apollo to help the astronauts with their sleep-wake cycle. Since in space there was no day or night it was affecting their ability to sleep consistently and have a normal cycle. The company developed a light that mimics the sun’s rays, 10,000 lux full spectrum, it was helpful.
Then the company started doing research with light in other areas. Researchers found that it helped with seasonal affective disorders. In the 90’s there were these giant boxes that would mimic the sun’s rays and help people feel more alert. It made them feel more awake. The cost was between two and five thousand dollars to be able to use the light maybe available through a sleep lab at a hospital.
So not really that accessible. However, now these lights are online and are around 30 bucks. If you have trouble waking up in the morning you could purchase one of these lights. You would wake up, turn over, turn it on and you are hit with light that mimics the sun’s rays. Stare at it for 15 minutes, this will help you wake up, that’s why I say you will love it because it works.
When you’re in that state of mind being sleepy it’s like you there’s a part of you that doesn’t want to wake up. Because it can be very effective it helps you transition into an alert state where you have more beta waves. You are able to wake up and focus. This light can also be used mid-day in the background particularly in work environments where there is not much sunlight.
You can use it during period of day where your energy starts dipping you just turn it on. This can help maintain that alertness and energy. Of course, this isn’t going to work for everyone, everyone has different needs, but this does work for a lot of people. If there is this issue of waking up and there aren’t other underlying issues this may help your ability to transition into an awake state.
In my opinion it’s worth 30 bucks particularly because it used to be so expensive. If this is something, you want to try by all means give it a shot see if it works. Get something that’s 10,000 lux and that’s full spectrum. Since the original research apollo has done a lot of different research with light. There’s this whole area of light therapy, so if that’s something that interests you, you can look into that as well.
